Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Ishmael Mnisi, has confirmed that Cape Town International Airport will be renamed in the near future. It is set to be named after a South African anti-apartheid icon.

While Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema, called for the airport to be renamed after Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, during his speech at her funeral at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday (April 14), Ishmael says that the airport has not officially been renamed as yet, but that Madikizela-Mandela’s name is among those being considered.

What are your thoughts of the renaming of Cape Town International Airport? Let us know in the comments below.
